ugh i love this so much! i've always noticed the consistency of her stardom (and inevitability of the rehashed discourse cycle around her faux pas specifically), but i never really thought about it like this. i do think she cracked out of the machine with her 2017-19 run, which also somehow managed to be her most prolific, and dare i say, iconic. but it's always interesting to me that her most broken self is what the public seems to really cling to and yearn for a return to, and that brings me back to this piece in how pop culture conditions us to expect (and subconsciously root for) consequence. i think how quickly she also swung the pendulum back into maximal control over her personal life after pretty much a year long breakdown shows how much a star needs to be able to maintain restraint to survive the system that hungers for content
